One of the creators of the bill control pill, professor Carl Djerassi, 91, says he believes that by the year 2050, men and women's method of birth control will be to freeze their sperm and eggs, and then get sterilized, allowing them to have sex all the time without worrying about pregnancy [via Telegraph].
This could also greatly affect abortion numbers, since it would make unplanned pregnancy impossible, and it could potentially result in healthier children because the eggs and sperm would be younger. So basically you could freeze your eggs in your 20s, and make every professional and sexual decision without worrying about accidental pregnancy or being too old to conceive, because you could choose to get pregnant via IVF whenever you were ready.
Djerassi also adds that developing a male contraceptive is unlikely because there is no way to tell if it would affect the quality of the sperm and that research would take decades, so freezing your eggs and sterilizing yourself seems to be the best option.
That is, of course, if the cost of freezing your eggs and doing IVF decrease dramatically, which it could by 2050. And if it hasn't decreased, I guess everyone will just have to pray they find a suitcase full of money.
