Finding Friends - The Where Is As Important As The How

Most advice focuses on how you can make friends and very little of it focuses on where you can do so. But even if you had all the knowledge possible on how to make friends and knew how to use that knowledge to its full potential you would still get nowhere if you don't know where you can look for potential friends.
Depending on where you live, and how long you have lived there, as well as what your particular interests are the areas where you will most likely have a higher degree of success with finding potential friends will differ but there are some general tips that can help steer you in the right direction.
A good place to start is by writing down your interests, there is no need of sorting them at this time because we are going to do that later. Just start by writing down everything that you find interesting or what you like to do.
Then start removing the ones you don't want to do on a semi-regular basis, an example of this could be that you like reading but you want to do so on your own time instead of on a bi-weekly basis and you would rather choose yourself what to read instead of reading the same book as a group of other people. You can also sort out hobbies and interests that you prefer to do alone.
By now you should have a relatively short list of things you would like to do with a bunch of other people at a fairly regular basis and this is a pretty good start on knowing where you specifically can find potential friends.
The reason for this is simple. We tend to feel drawn towards people that share our own views and interests and, as such, if you find a group that shares at least one of yours you will be well on your way.
Now on to the next step. Start searching in your area for groups and areas where your particular interest is held. Examples of these include book clubs, sports teams, theater groups and similar groups as well as recreational centers, malls, bars and arcades for venues.
There are several ways you can get this information. First, you can ask around in your neighborhood or area, see if some of your neighbors know anywhere you can go to find like-minded people (maybe one of your neighbors is into the same things you are?).
Second, use the internet to find information about your local area and what occurs in it. A good way of doing this is browsing forums but quick searches on search engines such as Google can work as well.
Third, keep an eye on bulletin boards around your community since they can provide valuable information on what kinds of activities are coming up as well as where they are located. These events are generally a very good place for finding potential new friends and if the event is something that interests you then it is highly advisable that you attend them.
