Is There Really Only One God?

Expert Author Dr. Jeff Davis
Is there really only one God? Seems like an honest question. Problem is, how do you answer it?
There are over 6 billion people living on this planet. Yet a small percentage of those people claim there is no God. They are certainly entitled to their opinion. But overall people seem to feel that yes, there is a God out there somewhere.
Depending on your background and what you currently believe there could be room in your thinking for this concept of a God. But have you ever wondered the following questions;
1) If there is a God, is He a Supreme God who rules the universe or a god with limited power, such as Thor, the Norse God from Marvel comics?
2) Is there only one God or do many other gods exist?
3) What, if any, are the limits of his power and involvement in our lives?
4) Where does the freedom of man to chose his own destiny come into play?
It would seem that the concept of a God with such limitations does not make him a God but something a little more than a man. Conversely, how do we deal with a God who has such power and we may have to answer to one day with how we lived our lives?
I think such an approach must be taken with great care. Let me share with you a thought I heard in a lecture at school as we discussed God and science;
"Imagine for a moment that you are a God with the power to create. You use this power to create a man, not because you have to but because you want to. Then you give this man certain attributes similar to your own. You don't give him as much power as you possess but clearly his is the most powerful of all of your creation as we see how man dominates the world in which he lives.
A question? If you created such a man, would you give him the power to reject you for his whole existence on earth with no desire to ever come to find out where he came from? Or would you put an emptiness within him to search for answers outside of himself"?
I know what it's like for adoptive children to grow up in loving homes and still search for their natural parents even through their adoptive parents are loving. Something within us all yearns to connect to our roots.
i wonder; is man yearning to connect with his roots? Maybe this explains the search for God.
Just a thought!
