The photos may still be out there.
A total of 731 photos of Northern Ireland
elementary schoolgirls were found on a porn website frequented by
pedophiles. Many of the photos appear to be photos the girls took of
themselves and their friends, and were taken from social media profiles
without their consent [via BBC].
BBC NI Spotlight discovered the photos in October and alerted the PSNI's Child Protection Unit. Spotlight also notified the schools.
The
website, which appears to be based and run in Israel, removed the
photos once the BBC contacted it, but wouldn't say who the original
uploaders were. The website maintained that the photos were not a big
deal and that its users were just indulging in a fantasy.
The
former head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre
(CEOP) Jim Gamble doesn't agree, saying he believes whoever is uploading
these has an "extremely deviant sexual interest in children" and that
the images were probably shared with other pedophile websites.Northern Ireland Police say they're still investigating the matter, but at this point, the photos could be anywhere.
