The doctor who performed the augmentation is being charged with negligence.
Joy Williams, a 24-year-old London resident, died of an infection after a flawed butt augmentation surgery at a Bangkok clinic, reports the Telegraph. Police have taken the doctor responsible for the surgery into custody and are charging him with negligence.
Williams was a "bright, caring girl" who struggled greatly with her self-esteem, her family said. She'd had plastic surgery before.
The original surgery was performed on October 14, but Williams returned to the clinic complaining of bleeding from the area and immense pain. Dr. Sompob, the surgeon, administered intravenous anesthetics that he was not qualified to give, says The Bangkok Post. Williams did wake up from the surgery, but was found dead on the floor of her apartment just hours later.
If found guilty, Dr. Sompob will serve a mere three-year sentence and a 60,000-baht fine (which is less than 2,000 American dollars).
