The Great Gatsby is one the greatest novels of all time written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This book is about one of the most powerful characters of American literature. Yes, I am talking about Jay Gatsby.
Before I start, let me give you a short introduction of this book. Written in the 1920s, we are reading this book from the perspective of Nick Caraway who moves to Long Island. He rents a small house and ends up living next to Jay Gatsby.
I had a mixed reading experience. There are parts that I liked and there are parts that I did not really care for. There is some gorgeous writing and there are parts where I had to put my book down. I really liked seeing all the characters attending stunning parties at Gatsby's house and having terrible time. It tends to happen a lot at parties; people get drunk, people start gossiping and people start fighting.
I definitely thought that Jay Gatsby was a very interesting character. At first you are kept in suspense because the narrator doesn't really know about him. But when you start finding more about Jay Gatsby, the mystery falls apart. Despite living a luxurious life, he is extremely frustrated. He is nothing than a man who is desperate for Daisy's love.
Like most of the F. Scott Fitzgerald writing style, there are a lot of metaphors and symbols in the story. I felt this book was perfect for me because I enjoy reading books on luxury, love and rich characters. This is not a book that I will be reading over and over. I will probably check it in the future just to see if my experience has changed. Besides, we also tend to appreciate a book more when we read it for the second time because we are not focused on figuring out what is going to happen.
I am glad that I read this book. It was an interesting book with intriguing characters and beautiful writing.
